Worship Recap – Sept. 14th, 2008

I am a slacker! It’s Thursday and I have posted nothing about last Sunday. My apologies. I’ll try to make this quick. This was another solo week as the band is still off until Oct. 5th. Personally it was a rough week leading up to Sunday’s service. I had a lot going on. On Sunday I was very “pitchy.” One of those Sundays where you’ve hit the high notes 20 times in rehearsal but just can’t seem to make it happen when it counts. It could have been due to lack of sleep, the fact that my monitor had been moved, or leading from the keyboard instead of guitar. Either way, I’m not one to make excuses and I know it wasn’t my best performance, but there’s nothing I can do to change it now. Here’s the set-list:

Jesus Paid it All > A nice familiar opener. It is much better with a full band, but even acoustic it is still an amazing song. “Oh praise the one who paid my debt, and raised this life up from the dead!”

Overcome > Still a relatively new song for our church, but we’re working on it. I am just trying to keep it in the rotation so that people get more comfortable with it. It is a great tune to sing but a hard one to simply throw in because of it’s length. At it’s shortest arrangement I can’t keep it below 6 minutes.

Word of God Speak > This was led from the keyboard which I enjoyed a lot (despite my lack of pitch). It was a great tie in to the theme for the week, although I am not a big fan of solos, so I tend to dislike them even more when I am the one singing the solo. I like participation and involvement (call me newfashioned!)

Closer > I always forget about this song, and then when I hear it I think, “why aren’t we singing that every week!” It is this great song about God speaking to us. It is our prayer that God would lean in close and speak to us and let his word guide our lives. “Beautiful are the words spoken to me, and beautiful is the one who is speaking.” What a powerful confession.

There’s my late short recap from this week. I’ll try to be better about next week.
