Sorry to disappoint but I’ve got no set list to share this week. Want to know why?
I HAD THE WEEK OFF!
In case you can’t tell I was a little excited about that. Don’t get the wrong idea, I LOVE leading worship every Sunday, but every once in a while it’s important to take a Sunday off. Usually when I take a Sunday off it’s because I’m leading or speaking at another church or a youth event. Today was one of those super rare Sundays when I wasn’t on a planning schedule anywhere. Whenever there is a 5th Sunday in a month we combine our Modern and Traditional worship experiences into a “Family Worship Celebration.” Don’t ask if this is a good idea or not. This is only our 2nd go at it and still have some evaluation to do yet. Anyway, our Choir performed a special concert that included a lot of kids participation. This left the band with a week off and me with the freedom to do whatever I wanted.
A lot of people asked me if I was simply going to sleep in. What a waste of a day off! I decided to head down to visit Catalyst Church. This was my church before starting at Mayfield. It was great to visit them at their new location and see a few old friends from back in the day. I continue to follow Catalyst closely and pray for the ministry.
On a personal note, I finally realized how important it is to take a Sunday off every once in a while. It was a good experience for me to be reminded what it’s like to sit in the audience, to walk into a room completely unaware of what to expect, to sing along with worship songs even if they aren’t familiar, and to actually let my heart worship instead of my mind analyzing every minute of service.
I’m looking forward to the next two weeks. We’ve got some great services planned with some really fun tunes. Easter should be a great opportunity to minister to our community.

I read a book on “Courageous Leadership” by Bill Hybels months back. He takes (I think) a few months off in the summer to revive him for the upcoming year. So we can’t give all of you a few months off, I believe that having time to refresh and reflect is VITAL. Otherwise, burnout will be in the near future.
Its always WONDERFUL to visit an “old” church where you see familiar faces and get refreshed.
Awesome! I’m glad you got a day off. Everyone needs one from time to time.
