Super Cool!

This is me with "super cool"

Me and Super Cool.

He is the coolest superhero around…apparently. Random picture from Drive 08. I’ve got no comment, I just think it’s awesome.

Worship Recap – June 1st, 2008

Can you believe it is June already? Amazing! Anyway, here was the set list this week:

Opening Set

Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)

All We Need

Special

He Knows My Name

Closer

Your Grace is Enough

The opening set went really well. People seemed jazzed up and ready to go. They were so into it that we broke down to a mellow part of one song and they just kept clapping like we were still pushing at full power. It’s always nice when the crowd leads the song! :) We did a fast version of Amazing Grace. A neat version with palm mutes on the verses and full energy choruses. He Knows my Name was the special chosen by Elizabeth (acoustic). Each week during summer one band member chooses one song to lead. It should be fun to see what comes up from everyone. She made a crack at me on stage about how we don’t do any older music and since she got to pick she wanted to do an old 80′s tune because there were great songs written in the 80′s. I wonder if she knows her song was written in ’96? :) We did a laid back version of Your Grace is Enough during communion. Very acoustic and light. Went well, but I started it off waaaaaay toooooo slooooowww so it dragged and dragged. But, you live you learn. Overall this was one of our best weeks at music to sermon theme connection. Each song was spot on and the flow was nice. Now if only we could get rid of those pesky announcements! ahhhh…to dream.

Worship Recap – May 18th, 2008

All in all this was a difficult week for worship. The band played without any rehearsal due to a 9:30 service focus group we all participated in on Wednesday night. This led to a few bugs with the music. The other problem was my complete lack of rehearsal this week. I have been working all week on music for Camp Aldersgate this summer. Combine that with the project I had due in class on Friday night and rehearsal just got lost along the way. This led to me missing a lot of entrances, wrong chords, and forgetting the lyrics several times.

What amazes me is the tendency of the spirit of God to continue to move despite our shortcomings. It was a beautiful day of worship regardless. Here is the set we played:

Your Grace is Enough

Indescribable

Come Now

Happy Day

It was a great experience to see people energized by the music and really into it this week. I have to apologize to the band because I know how they struggle when I go off and do something completely different. Well “Come Now” was a song that was never rehearsed and was completely new. Happy day was this great celebration song. 6 baptisms!!! and 22 young people who chose to dedicate their lives to Christ. What an amazing week. I continue to be glad that God can use us, even when we are not at our best, for His glory.

Another New Blog

Yes, I have another shiny new blog. We’re gonna try this again. Third time’s a charm. I may actually get around to keeping this one up to date. More to come…hopefully.
